Cedarcrest HS’s girls hoopsters roll to league win, plus the rest of last night’s hardwood action
Good Saturday morning. Let’s start on the hardwood, shall we?
Cedarcrest High School’s girls’ basketball team made a stellar return to Wesco play last night, using a balanced scoring attack and tough defense to beat Oak Harbor.
Sidra Griffin and Kat Townley each had 13 points to lead the Red Wolves and Rose Carlson added 10 in the 59-19 home blowout of the Wildcats at CHS’ gym in Duvall. “Our team was ready to play tonight. Our defensive pressure, our effort on the boards, and especially our ball movement, really set the tone,” said Cedarcrest coach Brad Knowles by email to the SVSJ. “The girls are playing with more confidence too. It’s great to go into the second half of the season with them feeling that way.”
He also had praise in particular for Carlson. “Rose Carlson is really stepping her game up right now,” he told us. And that is a good thing as the Red Wolves continue to look for additional scoring to fill the void left by star Jaylin Yowell’s absence; she again missed last night’s game as she continues to work her way back from an early-season knee injury that was reaggravated over the winter break. The sophomore is out indefinitely.
