CHS girls’ hoops returns to action following winter break and grabs win

Coach Brad Knowles had a specific idea in mind playing Mount Vernon in their gym. “One of the reasons I scheduled a non-league game against Mount Vernon was to have the girls get used to the gym because our district playoffs are played there,” he told us by email. “The girls looked comfortable on the court and cruised (to the victory).” And they did, rolling to a 46-29 rout of the Bulldogs aided by 13 points from Sidra Griffin which led Cedarcrest. Rose Carlson also had a solid game with nine points, a performance described by Knowles as her best of the season.

The team played once again without star player Jaylin Yowell, continuing her recovery from an early-season knee injury. She is now out indefinitely after having re-aggravated the injury over winter break. Knowles told us that there is still a chance she’ll be ready for the postseason, but that is uncertain at the moment. Her absence will make the second half of the schedule a little more challenging; they open that against Oak Harbor tomorrow at home in a return to Wesco action. 7:00 game tomorrow night in Duvall and we’ll have a preview and pick for you here tomorrow.
