Cedarcrest girls fall in tournament title game

Cedarcrest girls fall in title game at Chelan tourney: The Red Wolve ladies struggled offensively, but still had a chance to beat host Chelan last night in the title game at the Chelan Invitational over in north central Washington, but they fell just short, dropping a 38-37 decision to the Goats. “We had a rough night offensively in both execution and shooting. Chelan shot well and we didn’t but we had a chance to win it at the end but that shot like our others missed the mark,” said coach Brad Knowles by email. Ava Erhardt led the Cedarcrest efforts with nine points as the squad went 1-1 and finished second in the four-team event. They’ll be back to work this next week in Wesco play. As for the Red Wolves boys, they too, were in the tournament title game last night but we have no report yet from that game.

Cedarcrest High School’s boys and girls’ basketball squads also enjoyed victory in a holiday tournament, with both teams beating Oroville in the opener of the Chelan Holiday Tournament.

The Red Wolve girls led off, and their game with the ladies from the north central Washington border community ended up being a game where everyone got a chance to play and score points, according to coach Brad Knowles, as Cedarcrest cruised to a 52-13 win after shutting out their opposition in the entire first half. “You never know who you are going to face in a holiday tournament or their talent level. Oroville is a small school in a rebuilding year,” said Knowles by email, and that showed early, as CHS took a 29-0 halftime lead, you read that right, 29-0, then they changed things up a little bit and everyone got in and contributed as noted. Sidra Griffin led things with eight points for the Red Wolves, whose boys then hit the floor afterward at Chelan High School with Oroville’s boys and that, too, was a dominant performance for Cedarcrest, as they posted a 56-31 win. Nicolo Cammarano led the Red Wolves with 10, and Chris Busch added nine for the victors. Spencer Martin scored a game-high 16 to lead the guys from northern Okanogan County.

Cedarcrest continues play at the tournament today, against host Chelan.
